BOB AKIN
AWARD
The Bob Akin Award is named after
a legend of the US sportscar racing
scene. Bob Akin was a multiple
winner of the Sebring 12 Hours
between 1978 and 1987, and raced
at Le Mans six times, with a best
finish of fourth in 1984.
The award was created after his
death in 2002 and has been
given to the top Bronzerated
driver in each
class of the IMSA
SportsCar
Championship for over a decade.
However, in 2022 it took on an
additional benefit: an automatic
entry into the 24 Hours of Le
Mans.
Inception Racing's Brendan Iribe
won the Award last year, after a
stellar performance behind the
wheel of a McLaren GT3 EVO,
where he consistently led the
standings, and his reward is a place
on the grid for the 2024 running of
the race.
